John Chalker

Wow! What an organisation Hospitality Training Australia has become.

From a basic philosophy of a training organisation with the primary characteristics of competency based, workplace based training with flexible delivery, to an organisation now registered to deliver internationally is a wonderful progression in a little over five years, and all within the initial dreams of the business.

Hospitality Training Australia is endeavouring to provide structured, industry understanding and recommended training for all areas of the Hospitality Industry in a manner generally not offered to this point. Where the skilled and certified employer and the training partner (the training employee) are able to work in an environment of understanding the needs of each other, with both working in partnership with the training organisation (HTA) in a professional way that will end in the skills base of all being enhanced.

The growth worldwide in the provision of tourism & hospitality services has been dynamic and now critically supports the economies, through employment opportunities, of most countries.

Victoria is, and has been recognised for some time as, the dining capital of Australia with increased skill levels being one of the major dynamics of that reputation.

Professional, well trained and skilled, happy in their environment, people working providing a service of food & beverage & hospitality (and what can be more friendly than food & booze & people) to other people who want to be serviced by a person not a robot, is most important for many in both the local and international market place.

To be able to gain that skill and certification through Hospitality Training Australia whilst working in the Victorian restaurant/hospitality industry is an opportunity not to be missed. To be able to do this as a local or an international from Thailand, Singapore, Fiji, Cambodia, India or wherever will continue to develop not only the local skill base but assist the skills of developing neighbours.

What a wonderful outcome for all concerned.

John Chalker is the founder and original Chief Executive Officer of Hospitality Training Australia. John has over 40 years in the hospitality industry, more than 20 of those on the executive council of our training partner, Restaurant & Catering Victoria with a substantial number of years as Vice-president or Treasurer and a number of years on the board of Restaurant & Catering Australia. John now operates The Owl & The Pussycat Restaurant & Bar and consults in the areas of training, workplace relations, liquor licensing and hospitality matters.
